Being someone who doesn’t have a huge interest in football I join the many people who simply watch the Superbowl for the commercials. I would literally pop in and out of people’s rooms throughout the game just to watch the commercials. Now of course there was a lot going on with the commercials this year specifically with the banned GoDaddy commercial (they love to push the boundaries), but as far as funny or cool commercials go the status is the same as the last couple years which was a handful of really cool/ really funny commercials and the rest somewhat dull. Don’t be worried though if you missed the Superbowl or any of the commercials and want to see what I found to be the best in my opinion then here you go:
10. Skittles: It Will Be Settled
I have no idea what the message of this commercial really was but I thought it was a fun 15 second commercial, and them muscles though!
9. Audi: Doberhuahuas
The puppypocalypse, we all knew it was coming. But seriously though, don’t mix a Chihuahua and a Doberman it’s dangerous and Sarah Mclachlan will sing a song about it and nobody wants that.
8. Doritos: Craveman
I think we all knew a Doritos Commercial would show up on this list, it’s inevitable. The commercial begs a good question though, if a person that had never seen or tasted a Doritos chip before (or chips in general…or even packaged food) found a bag what would they do with it?
7. Snickers: The Brady Bunch (feat. Danny Trejo)
Two guys came into the Snickers advertising office the day they came up with this video, one a nostalgic older man who recently found that channel that reruns old shows and yesterday relived his entire childhood because they had a Brady Bunch Marathon, and the other a younger guy who was browsing through Netflix and found one of the Machete movies or another Danny Trejo gory action movie. The two, both laden with ideas from their recent video experiences, spun around the corner too fast and crashed into each other creating some kind of hilarious monstrosity that became this commercial.
6. Old Spice: Nightmare Face
Ah yes the always strange yet entertaining Terry Crews Old Spice Commercial. Honestly, as much as I miss the classic Isaiah Mustafa commercials I do rather enjoy Terry Crews and I love the randomness they’ve introduced with him.
5. Loctite Glue
This was one of those “what were they high on” kind of commercials where you watch it and ask yourself, “what were they high on?” That’s really all I have to say about this one….as well as bahahahahahaha!!!!
4. Clash of Clans: AngryNeeson52
I find it funny how Liam Neeson himself was stuck picking the username “AngryNeeson52.” Awesome hilarious commercial from Supercell who has been doing a lot with their marketing for Clash of Clans. If you’re wondering whether I play CoC just ask my Level 10 Town Hall (feel free to hit me up in the comments and hey maybe if enough people do so I’ll start my own clan which of course you all can join). It would also be funny if they did one based off of Clash of the Titans too.
3. Esurance: (feat Bryan Cranston)
It took me awhile watching to get through Breaking Bad including a month long break from it and then having to re-watch season 3 before moving on, but I have to say it was worth it especially since so many people have used it for parodies etc. This was a clever move by Esurance that honestly I wasn’t sure if it would work, based on the fact that the show ended 2 years ago, but then I remembered that “Better Call Saul” spin-off series that’s going on right now which would make it relevant.
2. Bud Light: #UpForWhatever
Now I’ll admit I don’t drink and I’m not really into the whole drinking thing but you can’t deny that Budweiser has some pretty good marketing capabilities especially when it comes to their Superbowl ads, and this one was….just plain cool. Like seriously Life size Pac Man! Can we please make that a real thing!!! Of course I would hope to get more than just a beer for winning.
1. TurboTax: Boston Tea Party
And we made it my favorite commercial of the 2015 Superbowl, THIS WAS GENIUS! One of the themes we see a lot of during the game is AMERICA (which being the big name American sport football is that makes sense) and what’s more American than our nation’s history and more importantly our history of gaining independence. The way these creators brilliantly tied that in with the taxation and the Boston Tea Party and then continued on with the Revolution and even the famous Washington crossing the Delaware and just the whole thing was hilarious that’s all I can even manage out of my mouth at this point. It was awesome and I loved it, well done TurboTax!
