Spring Break

So I’m hoping everyone out there had a great spring break because I know I sure did. I may not have had the most extravagant of a spring break, I didn’t get to travel anywhere cool like some of my friends here at the college did: Hawaii, Florida, California; but even though it wasn’t the coolest break it may have been the most rewarding.

I went home for spring break, back to the beautiful Sioux City, Iowa, where I settled into the house and called up some friends who were also in town. Before I did that though I knew that I was going to need some work to keep me occupied, though I had friends that lived in Sioux City they worked during the day which meant that I would be stuck at home which would not only be boring but also unhealthy (because I tend to eat when I’m bored at home). So not wanting to go through the hassle of going back to any of my current employments: Fareway, Carousel, etc that would require me to set up a schedule etc and would have been too much hassle just for one week of work; I rather decided to post an ad on Craigslist offering to do some general labor: moving, lifting, etc as well as offering to do video and photography work as well. I was a little skeptical at first; we all know the stories about the “bad people” on Craigslist. Anyways, I quickly got a response from a nice woman who needed help with yard work and various moving. I went to her house and everything was legit, possibly some of the hardest most physically strenuous work I’ve done in my life for sure but for $10/hr I figured it was worth it. She asked me back the next day and the day after that totaling me in the end at $120, a nice stash of cash to bring back to the college with me (though to be totally honest I spent most of it while I was still at home). So bottom-line this entire story goes out to all those college students and college students in the future that your spring break/breaks in general don’t have to be boring and unfruitful.

Aside from working and making much needed money I had a lot of opportunities to hang out with some of my Sioux City friends which I greatly appreciated. My friend Jordan, who is soon to be married, let me stay overnight at his place just like we did all the time in the good-ole-days giving us time to reminisce. I got to go with him and his fiance and her friend (who I will be eternally grateful to) who took me out to see Insurgent with them.

Quinn, the one I mention in the My Life A Fan Fiction stories is always one of my go-to guys while I’m in town and we had a good time chilling together. We found ourselves at Perkins a lot (since it’s open 24/7 and we stay up pretty late) just talking and having a slice of pie. At one point we went down to South Sioux City where a friend from high school worked and messed with her until she got off. From this experience I got my first lottery ticket (I do not condone the buying of such items but I won a bet and it was pretty much bought for me) which got me some winnings of about $2.

Interesting story that goes along with what I was just talking about. After the whole lottery ordeal we went with this girl to Perkins where we sat down and snacked on pie while we all talked when in walked this guy, younger handsome looking possibly a college student, who sat a couple tables ahead of us all by himself and ordered some food. He noticed us conversing (which wasn’t hard we were kind of loud) and decided to watch us (very obviously) and listen in. We all noticed it except for Kayla (the girl with us) who was sitting with her back turned to the guy. Anyways he continued to stare which was freaking Quinn and I out and I even once looked over at him and smiled and nodded, very passively but nevertheless, and it did nothing the man did not look away. At one point I made a reference to Avatar: The Last Airbender (freaking love that series) which this guy picked up on and said, “dude you like last airbender? Nice!” and reached over to give me a high-five which I returned cause I’m just a nice guy like that. Anyways he got his food which he would eat a little of and then go back to watching us and once finished with his food left and paid without a goodbye. If you’re the guy and you’re reading this I’m not mad or anything but definitely hit me up in the comments and let me know what’s up.

The whole break had it’s ups and downs such as finding that someone had taken a dump in the Hamilton blvd McDonald’s urinal which was disgusting and if you did it and you’re reading this, dude that’s not funny it’s disgusting seriously. But thankfully the break had more ups than downs and that’s what’s important.

My Top 10 Superbowl 2015 Commercials

Being someone who doesn’t have a huge interest in football I join the many people who simply watch the Superbowl for the commercials. I would literally pop in and out of people’s rooms throughout the game just to watch the commercials. Now of course there was a lot going on with the commercials this year specifically with the banned GoDaddy commercial (they love to push the boundaries), but as far as funny or cool commercials go the status is the same as the last couple years which was a handful of really cool/ really funny commercials and the rest somewhat dull. Don’t be worried though if you missed the Superbowl or any of the commercials and want to see what I found to be the best in my opinion then here you go:

10. Skittles: It Will Be Settled

I have no idea what the message of this commercial really was but I thought it was a fun 15 second commercial, and them muscles though!

9. Audi: Doberhuahuas

The puppypocalypse, we all knew it was coming. But seriously though, don’t mix a Chihuahua and a Doberman it’s dangerous and Sarah Mclachlan will sing a song about it and nobody wants that.

8. Doritos: Craveman

I think we all knew a Doritos Commercial would show up on this list, it’s inevitable. The commercial begs a good question though, if a person that had never seen or tasted a Doritos chip before (or chips in general…or even packaged food) found a bag what would they do with it?

7. Snickers: The Brady Bunch (feat. Danny Trejo)

Two guys came into the Snickers advertising office the day they came up with this video, one a nostalgic older man who recently found that channel that reruns old shows and yesterday relived his entire childhood because they had a Brady Bunch Marathon, and the other a younger guy who was browsing through Netflix and found one of the Machete movies or another Danny Trejo gory action movie. The two, both laden with ideas from their recent video experiences, spun around the corner too fast and crashed into each other creating some kind of hilarious monstrosity that became this commercial.

6. Old Spice: Nightmare Face

Ah yes the always strange yet entertaining Terry Crews Old Spice Commercial. Honestly, as much as I miss the classic Isaiah Mustafa commercials I do rather enjoy Terry Crews and I love the randomness they’ve introduced with him.

5. Loctite Glue

This was one of those “what were they high on” kind of commercials where you watch it and ask yourself, “what were they high on?” That’s really all I have to say about this one….as well as bahahahahahaha!!!!

4. Clash of Clans: AngryNeeson52

I find it funny how Liam Neeson himself was stuck picking the username “AngryNeeson52.” Awesome hilarious commercial from Supercell who has been doing a lot with their marketing for Clash of Clans. If you’re wondering whether I play CoC just ask my Level 10 Town Hall (feel free to hit me up in the comments and hey maybe if enough people do so I’ll start my own clan which of course you all can join). It would also be funny if they did one based off of Clash of the Titans too.

3. Esurance: (feat Bryan Cranston)

It took me awhile watching to get through Breaking Bad including a month long break from it and then having to re-watch season 3 before moving on, but I have to say it was worth it especially since so many people have used it for parodies etc. This was a clever move by Esurance that honestly I wasn’t sure if it would work, based on the fact that the show ended 2 years ago, but then I remembered that “Better Call Saul” spin-off series that’s going on right now which would make it relevant.

2. Bud Light: #UpForWhatever

Now I’ll admit I don’t drink and I’m not really into the whole drinking thing but you can’t deny that Budweiser has some pretty good marketing capabilities especially when it comes to their Superbowl ads, and this one was….just plain cool. Like seriously Life size Pac Man! Can we please make that a real thing!!! Of course I would hope to get more than just a beer for winning.

1. TurboTax: Boston Tea Party

And we made it my favorite commercial of the 2015 Superbowl, THIS WAS GENIUS! One of the themes we see a lot of during the game is AMERICA (which being the big name American sport football is that makes sense) and what’s more American than our nation’s history and more importantly our history of gaining independence. The way these creators brilliantly tied that in with the taxation and the Boston Tea Party and then continued on with the Revolution and even the famous Washington crossing the Delaware and just the whole thing was hilarious that’s all I can even manage out of my mouth at this point. It was awesome and I loved it, well done TurboTax!

I’M ON IMDB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!! I’m on IMDB!!! I had kind of known about this, a friend of mine from the college had been doing a comedy skit show called The Ryeburg Show that I was in a couple episodes of. He had mentioned how he had a friend that worked for IMDB (the popular film information site) and was registering his show into their system. What I didn’t realize was that he had all of his actors registered as well.

(Me on IMDB)

So yeah that’s my freak out of the day, if you’re a film or television company feel free to contact me!

Liberty Hall Collective

Liberty Hall Collective

So I have mentioned several times that I am in fact a college student which is great, aside from the cost of course. One of the things I love about college is the ability to connect with people from different areas of study, in my case my roommate is part of an awesome band called: Liberty Hall Collective. They’ve recorded an album so far and are working on a second one. The band is an indie pop rock band, but they are pretty diverse in their music so there’s a little bit of something for everyone. I definitely recommend checking them out on Bandcamp at:

Honorable Titles

So one of my life goals is to collect titles, titles that can only be achieved through…achievements. Titles like Dr. that one can only get through getting a doctorates or being awarded an honorary doctorate for doing something great. Currently I have two titles but one, though it did take hard work to achieve, isn’t really an addable title. The first one I received was the previously mentioned one that doesn’t really add a title but took a lot to get, I received the title through becoming a black-belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. As is tradition in Tae-Kwon-Do one who has a black-belt has the right to become a master or sensei and thus are called by Mr. and their last name. So for me I became Mr. Gorsett. The other title I have achieved is the title of Reverend or Rev. which is surprisingly simple and later on I’ll tell you how to get that title yourself.

Getting Titles

1. Knighting:

Being named a knight is very difficult and nearly impossible if you’re not a British citizen. An American citizen can, at most, receive an honorary knighthood which doesn’t give you the title of ‘Sir.’ There IS a solution though! How many of you have ever heard of the Principality of Sealand? Basically Sealand is considered, by themselves though many disagree, an established sovereign state which would make it the smallest sovereign state in existence. The principality is a WWII sea base right off the coast of Suffolk, England and it was decided by the UK in a court case that the UK does not have jurisdiction over it. Anyways, the Principality of Sealand allows you to buy titles from them, now I will say this isn’t really achieving a title through hard work but it will get you the knighthood title as well as a few others such as: Lord, Lady, Baron, Baroness, Knight, Count, or Countess as well as owning a piece of Sealand or Sealand ID.

2. Doctorate

A doctorate is a very difficult title to achieve but is possible for anyone who’s willing to put forth the hard work that it takes. One way of getting a doctorates is to go through college, getting an internship, going to graduate school, lots of writing and hard work, writing your doctoral dissertation/thesis, and graduating from graduate school. It’s a lot of very hard work but it’s worth it to some people. By the way you don’t have to just want to be a doctor to get a doctorates there are plenty of different areas you can get a doctorates in, sadly they have yet to make a way to get a doctorates in film-making. The other way to get a doctorates is to do something extraordinary and thus be awarded an honorary doctorate, which is awarded by a university. Robert De Niro received his honorary doctorate in fine arts, Meryl Streep has four honorary degrees, J.K. Rowling has six honorary degrees, and even Kermit the Frog has an honorary doctorate…I wonder if that means Jim Henson technically has the doctorate as well…but sadly he is no longer with us.

3. Religious

Catholicism: There are several different kinds of political titles one can achieve, or not achieve.Titles like Pope are almost impossible to get since they only have one at a time and they are typically Pope for life, or until they resign. Not impossible though. To become Pope you must first become a priest which also requires one to be a man (women can become nuns though), get a college degree in something (more than likely in Theology), then get ordained. Now you need to be promoted to a bishop which requires being 35 years old and having been a priest for at least 5 years. Now there is a catch to becoming a Bishop and that is that there are only 5,000 at a time and they serve until they die or retire after the age of 75, which means you will probably have to wait. Then once you’ve made it as a bishop you can move on to Cardinal but only 200 of the 5,000 Bishops are cardinals so you will have to wait even more. Once you’re a Cardinal it’s some more waiting for you as you wait for the current Pope to die or retire (that sounded terrible please tell me you’re not just doing all this for the title). Then all the Cardinals (including yourself) will meet in Vatican City to vote for the new Pope. You will vote and being that God has ordained your being the new Pope you will get elected and all you’ll have to do is accept. Great job you’re now The Pope!

Other Factions of Christianity: There are various different titles in the Christian religion depending on one’s denomination. You could be a Pastor, Elder, Deacon, Reverend, etc. These positions can vary in requirements. Many of the leaders require a college degree in Theology or Religions and/or go to regular seminars, while some of them all you have to do is be elected by the people of the Church. One of the most simple ways of becoming a religious leader is by becoming a Reverend (Note: Some disagree with the legitimacy of this method). All one simply has to do is apply online and become ordained at: which will actually allow you to perform legally binding marriages. Plus, at the end you’ll get a fancy printable certificate. I’ve done this as well as my roommate and some other friends on our floor in the dorm hall I live in (we made a day out of it). It made it even funnier when we hung them up on our doors and the Chaplain for our college stopped by (to talk to another student that happened to live on our floor) and saw them. Someone asked him if they were legit and he simply replied, “Technically…yes,” and then walked out with a big grin on his face. There are different state requirements though so if you’re really looking into marrying two people make sure your state will allow it, and of course that you have the paperwork and other requirements.

Saint: Saint is one of those terms you hear about a lot when you’re talking about Christians from the past and that’s why Saint is a title you will probably have to wait on because the only time you get the title is when you’re dead. That doesn’t mean you have to stop working towards it now though, all you have to do is be really holy. That sounds strange, I would suggest doing a lot of volunteer and missionary work.

Monks etc: To become a monk or Lama you obviously must first become a Buddhist. It’s fairly simple to become a monk all one must do is join a Buddhist community and have a guide. Then eventually you can get ordained which will lead to becoming a monk, and once you’re a monk you can receive the title of Dolly Lama which is given as an honor.

4. Military

Bottom-line serving in the military is all about time and dedication, those are the basic requirements. One can work their way up through the ranks just by having the dedication and desire to want a higher position, and maybe some education on the side of course. It’s not easy and it takes awhile to get where you want to be.

Earning the title Private is as easy as joining and getting through boot camp, but getting a title that turns some heads has a little more work to it (though a Private makes a good $1700/month) and there is some moving up to do in the private classes through TIS (Time in Service) and TIG (Time in Grade): Private, Private 2 (4 Months TIG and 12 Months TIS as a Private, and Private First Class (6 Months TIG and 24 Months TIS). Then you move up to being a Specialist or a Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant/First Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant Major, and Sergeant Major of the Army.

Similarly to the Army you start out being a Private, and then you move up in the ranks through: Corporal, Sergeant (lots of Sergeant positions: Staff, Gunnery, Master, Major), Warrant Officer (Chief Warrant Officer 2-5), Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, (and then the good stuff) Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, and the big one General!

Air Force, Navy, and US Coast Guard are other areas full of military positions and titles so feel free to check those out if you’re interested at

5. School

Most school positions require a degree in education and maybe business (depending on how high you go) such as Principle or Dean. Professors and Teachers can get in with a teachings degree, though a professor technically works at a college. A nurse would need a degree in the medical field. Coaches though are simple enough because one could simply volunteer as a coach for younger leagues or community leagues, though the title doesn’t really go farther than the team.

6. Scouts

Scouts is a great thing to work one’s way through as a young man or woman and teaches a lot of great life skills. I remember back in the day being in cub scouts and I still wish I had gotten to go farther in scouts. Getting the titles given in scouts revolves around working hard in scouts, getting those badges, and being willing to volunteer. Being a scout leader is usually a volunteer position with some experience as a scout.

7. Police

Getting in the police department requires one to get a degree in Police Science as well as having a clean record. Once an officer you can move in to becoming a Sheriff which is the highest law enforcement officer in a county or parish and it’s easily recognizable. Almost always a Sheriff is elected by the citizens of the county/parish. Then you have Chief of Police, or Commissioner which is very similar to a Sheriff. Also you have the other positions like Commander, Colonel, Major, Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant Major, Detective, etc. It’s all kind of the same as the military: lots of positions and different areas.

8. Political

There are so many areas of politics that sadly I can’t go into it but there are lots of great titles to be collected in politics if you’re politically savvy. Governor, Senator, Representative, and of course President are some of the most recognizable.

Final Thoughts

There are a great many titles to get out there that typically revolve around one’s job. Even working at a grocery store can get you a title: Head Grocer, dairy guy, etc. Or you can have a gaming title like Pokemon Master that takes some hard work to get to. Some titles are auto-given like Mr. and Mrs/Ms. Bottom-line it all depends on what you’re passion is and how much effort and work you’re willing to put forth for a title.

What is this Blog

So one thing I may have forgotten to address at the start of this blog was the topic of this blog, which I’d like to state has really no topic, or rather no specific topic. Rather I preferred the idea of having multiple topics to add to the diversity of this blog. It’s a lot I know, that’s why I’m hoping that my audience (you wonderful people) will comment and become involved, I want to see the opinions of the people as reflected in what I write and at the same time I want to know what the people want to see me write about. I have plenty to say but I want to know what the people want me to talk about and what they have to say as well. So please feel free to reply and comment I want to know what everyone is thinking.

By the Way

As you all may have noticed I love categories, it’s one of my favorite things about blogging; being able to put related posts that I write in specific sections together and just keeping things organized it feels good. Of course, I want plenty of viewers to be happy with this blog and to see things in categories that they want to see so what I’m going to do is set up an email for all to send me areas they want me to touch on. What’s a category you might want to see made that I can be posting to? What’s a category I’ve already made you really like or don’t like? Please feel free to let me know I love audience feedback.

First Blog Post

Yeah I know the title is pretty bleh but I figure be direct, right? Anyways hi everyone my name is Skyler, and I figure everyone deserves to make their voice heard so here’s mine being expressed and i hope that the things I say might hit home with some people you never know. Possibly post some deep thoughts or even just some entertainment stuff. I love technology and going to/making movies so you never know maybe I do some movie reviews or even link some of the stuff I make. I understand that it can be kind of boring reading and listening to another person’s stories when we all have great one’s to share so feel free to comment back, say what you feel is needed to be said and hey i’ll be doing my best to get back to anyone who does.
